Industries: Employment by Industry

The Kansas City economy is very diverse without any one major industry dominating.

The broad Services sector has the most employment with over 520,000 employees with the Government sector a distant second with 171,659 employees and Retail in third with 146,000. No other sector has more than 10% of the region's employment.

By in large, the breakdown of Kansas City's employment looks a lot like the nation's, although there are some notable exceptions which are discussed in more detail in the "Location Quotient" section.
