Kansas City's economy (as measured by metro GDP) has increased steadily since 2001. The total value of economic activity in the region approached $84 billion in 2005. The Kansas City region accounts for less than 1% of the nation's economy, but it is nearly as large as Pakistan's and the Phillipines and is larger than Puerto Rico's, Peru's and New Zealand's economies.
